About Plainfield

Plainfield, CT is another great commuter location in Northeast, CT. The town if Plainfield is a close commute to both casinos, and also to Providence, RI, along with the shoreline of CT. Having Interstate 395 running through the town makes most commutes fairly easy.

The town of Plainfield has a rich history running back to 1653 when the Winthrop family purchased the tract of land from where it grew and flourished to where it is now. Plainfield, CT started as a rich agricultural town. In the early 1800’s cotton mills were built along the Moosup River, which started a new industrialized Plainfield, CT. Other mills were built in Plainfield where homes started to sprout up to support the numerous jobs that these mills supplied.

Plainfield also is the home to the Aldrich Free Public Library which offers many programs during the year. There are computers here free for public access. The Recreation Department that Plainfield has boasts a large variety of programs ranging from pool activities, to children’s programs, Child Care Center, Senior programs, and much more for Plainfield, CT residents to enjoy.

The Quinebaug Valley Trout Hatchery also calls Plainfield, CT home. This hatchery is the CT Department of Evironmental Protection’s newest and largest hatchery. Even though it was established in 1971, it is one of the Northeast’s largest and most modern fish hatcheries. They help replenish the streams and ponds of the Northeast with Trout. They also allow fishing here.
